The Need for Transparent Earnings Tracking

The company's rapid growth has introduced new challenges: taxi drivers frequently inquire about their earnings, questioning unexpected taxes, fees, and commissions on their balance sheets. Every week, around 400 chats are dedicated to clarifying these charges. An increasing number of such requests highlights the need for a more transparent earnings tool. While Uber and Bolt offer dashboards, they provide limited details. Calculation errors often go unnoticed, leading to lost earnings. To address this, the new app will consolidate data from all platforms, easing cognitive load and allowing drivers to track earnings effortlessly. Research: A software developer and tester were hired to integrate data from different applications and understand how to interpret it. During the week, I analyzed the model and the nuances of work in the firm. I learned what problems are most common, how people react to them, and how they are currently being solved. Design: Focusing on simplicity and clarity for users with different levels of digital literacy, I implemented the MUI Material 3 design system in the React framework. MUI M3 provided a cohesive and familiar aesthetic and simplified the development process with a large library of pre-styled components. This allowed me to create an accessible interface while providing a seamless user experience on all screen sizes. Using Material 3 components also improved the visual hierarchy, making key information easy to find and interact with.

The result

1. User-centered design: We mapped out key elements like total earnings, deductions, and net income, assigning each app (Uber, Bolt) a distinct color for clarity. 2. Clear data visualization: Earnings appear in a structured table with icons, plus daily and weekly summaries for quick insights. 3. Customization: Drivers can filter and sort data based on their priorities. СHALLENGES Data consistency: Each platform calculates fares and fees differently. To standardize information, we introduced unified terminology. Trust & transparency: A detailed Payout Details section explains deductions and provides historical payment records to boost driver confidence. Rapid Adaptation: To complete the project efficiently, I had to quickly learn and apply Material UI (MUI)—a React component library based on Google's Material Design. This involved understanding its component structure, theming system, and best practices for customization. Adapting to MUI allowed me to streamline the design process, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and a polished user experience within the given time frame. The new design enhances transparency and accessibility, reinforcing the firm's reputation for open communication and reliable daily payments. By clearly visualizing earnings, we aim to strengthen trust and provide drivers with greater confidence in their income tracking.
